CALIFORNIA (Sept. 5) – The Vulcans tallied the game-tying goal with just over 15 minutes remaining on Thursday evening to earn a 1-1 season-opening tie against Wheeling in non-conference play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

• California (0-0-1) faced Wheeling for the first time since the 2018 campaign.
• The Cardinals took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute with a goal on a header off a corner kick.
• The Vulcans tied the contest at the 73:49-mark with a header by
Mauricio Montenegro Flores with assists from
Shiko Ichimiya and
Jaime Marcelo Espinosa.
• Cal featured six newcomers in the starting lineup and sophomore
Kiernan Webb making his collegiate debut in net.
• The Vulcans held a 12-3 shot advantage after attempting seven shots in the second half.
