Vulcans fall on walk-off at IUP, 9-8

Game resumed in top fifth after play was halted; IUP scores three unearned runs over last two innings

INDIANA, Pa. (April 24) – The California (PA) softball team suffered a 9-8 loss at IUP in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Wednesday afternoon after the game was previously halted last month due to weather.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans fall to 20-18 overall with a 17-12 record in league action.
• The Crimson Hawks improve to 26-22 this season with a 12-16 mark in conference play.
• Cal has won nine of the last 11 meetings in the series against IUP dating back to the 2021 campaign.

STATS
• Junior Caleigh Rister finished with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored.
• Senior third baseman Shayna Postler tallied two hits, one RBI and one run scored in the contest.
• Rister (12-8) was saddled with the loss after yielding four runs (one earned) on five hits in 1.2 innings of relief.

ACTION
• Cal scored once in the first and added two runs in the second, including a two-RBI double by Rister.
• The Crimson Hawks answered with one run in the bottom of the second before taking a 4-3 lead in the third.
• The Vulcans responded by scoring five runs in the fourth after benefiting from a pair of errors.
• Senior Alyssa Rose and senior second baseman Jordan Pinneri collected back-to-back RBI singles and Postler later delivered a two-out RBI double.
• The game was then halted with Cal holding an 8-5 lead entering the top of the fifth.
• The Crimson Hawks scored a pair of runs in the sixth inning before stranding the bases loaded.
• IUP capitalized on a pair of errors in the bottom of the seventh to earn the walk-off victory.

NEXT
• The Vulcans close out the regular season on Friday, April 26, when they host Edinboro at Lilley Field on Senior Day with the doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
