California splits twinbill against Seton Hill

Griffins, Vulcans rank atop PSAC West standings; Four players post multi-hit games in victory

CALIFORNIA (April 10) – The California (PA) softball team claimed a doubleheader split against division-leading Seton Hill on Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at Lilley Field, winning 7-3 in Game 1 before losing by a 9-4 margin in Game 2.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans move to 12-11 overall behind a 10-5 record in league play.
• The Griffins improve to 25-9 this season with a 13-3 mark in conference action.
• Cal has won five of the eight games against Seton Hill at Lilley Field over the four years.

GAME 1
STATS
• Junior starting pitcher Caleigh Rister (7-5) earned the complete-game victory, surrendering three runs (all earned) on seven hits and four walks over 7.0 innings (139 pitches).
• Junior left fielder Carlena Fiorilli finished with three hits and two RBI.
• Senior third baseman Shayna Postler tallied two hits and two runs scored, while senior designated player Alyssa Rose posted two hits, one RBI, two runs scored and one walk.
• Sophomore right fielder Mikayla Linkous added two hits and one run scored and senior catcher Britney Wilson finished with a pair of RBI and scored twice after reaching on a walk and triple.
ACTION
• The Griffins scored twice in the top of the second before leaving the bases loaded.
• Cal answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning on three singles and two walks.
• Wilson drew a bases-loaded walk before Fiorilli later delivered a two-run single with two outs.
• The Vulcans stretched the lead to 6-2 in the third after tallying three runs on four hits.
• Postler and Rose started the rally with back-to-back, extra-base hits before Wilson lined an RBI triple and junior shortstop Brianna Sersevic followed with an RBI single.
• Seton Hill third baseman Grace Paredes belted a solo homer in the fifth before Cal scored in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
• Griffins starting pitcher Lauren Dellett (11-6), the 2023 PSAC West Pitcher of the Year, suffered the loss after allowing six runs (all earned) on eight hits in 2.2 innings (81 pitches).

GAME 2
STATS
• Rister collected three hits while batting cleanup and Linkous posted three RBI.
• Wilson added a pair of hits in the contest, while Fiorilli drew a pair of walks.
• Rose was saddled with the loss after yielding nine runs (six earned) on 11 hits and five walks in 6.1 innings (132 pitches).
ACTION
• The Griffins scored on a two-out RBI double in the first before the Vulcans responded with three runs in the second inning.
• Linkous posted a two-run double and Sersevic later collected an RBI single.
• Cal added to the lead in the third before Seton Hill capitalized on an error in the fourth to cut the deficit to a 4-2 margin.
• The Griffins took a 6-4 lead in the top of the fifth behind back-to-back RBI triples.
• Seton Hill scored a pair of unearned runs in the sixth before adding an insurance run in the seventh.
• Griffins starting pitcher Logan Hartman (14-3) posted the complete-game win after allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and four walks in 7.0 innings (135 pitches).
