Vulcans advance in final minute, 70-65

Cal to face IUP in quarterfinals of PSAC Tournament; Terrell posts PSAC-leading 12th double-double

CALIFORNIA (March 4) – The Vulcans scored the final five points over the last minute of play on Monday evening to earn a 70-65 victory over Seton Hill in the first round of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament after leading by as many as 26 points at the Convocation Center.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) women's basketball team improves 22-7 overall and extends its winning streak to eight games.
• The Vulcans advance to the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament to face IUP on Wednesday, March 6.
• The Griffins close the campaign with a 14-15 record after finishing sixth in the PSAC West standings.
• Cal has won nine-consecutive meetings against Seton Hill, plus both all-time meetings in the PSAC Tournament.

STATS
• Redshirt senior Dejah Terrell registered a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds on Monday.
• She shot 7-of-14 from the floor and added three assists and three blocks while playing 38 minutes.
• Senior Jordan Smith finished with seven points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals in the win.
• Sophomore Alicia Young tallied 12 points and three rebounds against the Griffins.
• Junior Sierra Bermudez posted 11 points, four rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes off the bench.
• Junior Allycia Harris collected seven points and five rebounds (four offensive) in the victory.



GAME ACTION
• The Vulcans and Griffins combined for eight lead changes in the first quarter.
• Late in the quarter, Cal scored eight-straight points in less than two minutes before taking a 24-17 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
• The teams traded back-to-back baskets in the opening minutes of the second quarter with the Vulcans holding a 29-21 lead at the 7:20-mark.
• Cal then mounted a 16-2 run over the remainder of the quarter to lead by a 45-23 margin at the break.
• The Giffins managed to shoot just 1-of-10 from the floor during that span and scored only six points in the quarter.
• Cal scored the initial two baskets in the opening 40 seconds of the third quarter to take its largest lead of the game at 26 points, 49-23.
• Seton Hill responded with a 16-3 rally to work the deficit to 58-48 with 53 seconds left in the quarter.
• The Griffins later posted a 10-2 run early in the fourth quarter to make it a one-possession game at 63-60 with 6:13 left to play.
• Seton Hill managed to score five-unanswered points midway through the quarter to tie the score at 65-65 at the 2:20-mark.
• The Vulcans held a three-point lead with 20 seconds remaining before freshman Kimaya Williams stole an inbounds pass and scored a fastbreak layup to seal the victory.
• Cal finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the floor and converted just 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from the free-throw line.
• The Vulcans held a 45-37 rebounding advantage and collected 18 assists in the win.
• Seton Hill senior Christiane Frye scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-20 shooting and added four rebounds, three assists and four steals in the loss.

NEXT
• Cal continues play in the PSAC Tournament on Wednesday, March 6, when it travels to face IUP at 6 p.m.
• The teams split the regular-season series with the home team winning each time.
