Cal stretches win streak at Edinboro, 66-56

Young scores a career-high 18 points; Vulcans finish with a plus-19 rebounding advantage

EDINBORO, Pa. (March 2) – The California (PA) women's basketball team secured third place in the divisional standings while closing out the regular season with a 66-56 win at Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans extended their winning streak to seven games to finish the regular season with a 21-7 record.
• Cal finished third in the PSAC West standings with a 16-6 conference mark and will host sixth-seeded Seton Hill in the opening round of the league tournament next week.
• The Fighting Scots fall to 16-11 this season behind a 14-8 record in league action.
• The Vulcans also snapped an eight-game road losing streak in the series, marking their first win at the McComb Fieldhouse since 2014.

STATS
• Sophomore Alicia Young scored a career-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting on Saturday.
• She also added five rebounds and one steal while playing 30 minutes.
• Junior Sierra Bermudez finished with 14 points in 17 minutes off the bench.
• Freshman Nina Shaw collected 13 points, three rebounds, two assists and five steals.
• Redshirt senior Dejah Terrell tallied 10 points, three rebounds and two blocks while battling foul trouble.
• Junior Allycia Harris tied her season high with 18 rebounds (10 offensive) at Edinboro.

GAME ACTION
• Edinboro opened the game on a 13-3 run with 5:39 remaining in the first quarter after making five of its initial six shots.
• The Vulcans responded by closing the quarter on an 11-4 rally to cut the deficit to a 17-14 margin.
• The Fighting Scots scored nine-unanswered points midway through the second quarter to take a 30-23 lead with 3:02 left before halftime.
• Cal went over six minutes without a field goal before trailing by a 32-27 margin at the break.
• The Vulcans started the third quarter on a 12-3 rally to take a 38-35 lead at the 2:25-mark.
• Cal limited Edinboro to just six points in the quarter, as the Fighting Scots shot just 2-of-13 from the floor.
• The Vulcans rallied off 14-unasnwered points between the third and fourth quarters to extend the lead to a 52-38 margin with 8:25 left to play.
• Edinboro worked the deficit to single digits in the final minute of action, 60-52, before Cal made sealed the win with six free-throws.
• Cal finished the game shooting only 31.1 percent (19-of-61) from the floor but made a season-high 25 free-throws.
• The Vulcans held a sizeable 48-29 rebounding advantage behind 23 offensive rebounds.
• Edinboro senior Morgan Gentile led all players with 25 points on 9-of-16 from the floor, including three-of-four from beyond the arc.

NEXT
• The Vulcans begin play in the PSAC Tournament on Monday, March 4, when they host Seton Hill in first round at the Convocation Center, starting at 6 p.m.
• Cal has won the last eight meetings in the series, plus posted a victory in the lone post-season meeting in the all-time series (2014 PSAC Tournament, first round).
