California posts road win over ESU

Vulcans break tie by scoring final six points over last 37 seconds; Gilliard makes four three-pointers

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (Dec. 7) – Behind four players scoring in double-digits, the California (PA) women's basketball team claimed a 69-63 victory at East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action on Saturday afternoon.

NOTES
• The Vulcans (5-5, 2-2) have won six-straight meetings in the series with the Warriors dating back to January 2016.
• Junior Alicia Young led the team in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting.
• She added five rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals while playing 25 minutes.
• Senior Talia Gilliard finished with 14 points behind four-of-six from long range.
• Sophomore Nina Shaw tallied 10 points and seven assists, while senior Sierra Bermudez collected nine points, three rebounds and six assists in 22 minutes off the bench.
• Senior Iyahnna Williams registered 13 points and two blocks and sophomore Kimaya Williams paced the team with seven rebounds and posted three assists.
• The Vulcans opened the game with a 13-4 run before holding a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• Cal scored 10-unanswered points late in the second quarter and took a 39-26 lead at the break.
• The Warriors cut the deficit to 43-40 midway through the third quarter before the Vulcans made  a pair of three-pointers in less than a minute.
• Cal led by double-digits, 62-51, with 6:03 remaining before ESU tied the score at 63-63 at the 1:40-mark.
• The Vulcans then scored the final six points of the game over the final 37 seconds.
• Cal shot over 55 percent in the first half before finishing the game with a .481 field-goal percentage (26-of-54), its best mark since the season-opener.
• The Vulcans also made a season-high eight three-pointers in the victory and scored 28 points off turnovers.

NEXT
• Cal is idle for 10 days due to finals before returning to action on Dec. 17 when it hosts Bloomsburg in PSAC Crossover play at 3 p.m.
