Women's Basketball rallies past Bloomsburg

Vulcans limit Huskies to only six second-half field goals; California forces 20-plus turnovers for sixth time

CALIFORNIA (Dec. 17) – The Vulcans rallied to erase an 18-point halftime deficit on Tuesday afternoon to earn a 65-60 win over Bloomsburg at the Convocation Center in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play.

NOTES
• California (6-5, 3-2) was playing its first game in 10 days due to final exams.
• Junior Alicia Young led the team in scoring with 16 points and added six rebounds and one block.
• Senior Talia Gilliard finished with 15 points and three rebounds, plus set a career high with six steals in the victory.
• Senior Sierra Bermudez posted 10 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals off the bench.
• Sophomore Kimaya Williams tallied five points, eight rebounds and two steals against the Huskies.
• Senior Allycia Harris collected nine points, 11 rebounds (10 offensive), one block and two steals before fouling out in 27 minutes.
• Bloomsburg posted a 16-3 run in the first quarter to build a 21-10 lead with 57 seconds left.
• The Huskies scored eight-straight points in the second quarter and held a 41-23 lead at the break.
• Cal scored 24 points in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 51-47 after closing the quarter on an 11-3 rally.
• The Vulcans tallied eight-unanswered points midway through the fourth quarter to seize a 60-53 lead with 5:52 left to play before being held scoreless for four-plus minutes.
• Gilliard made a three-pointer at the 1:45-mark to break a 60-60 tie and converted a pair of free-throws with 12 seconds left to seal the victory.
• Bloomsburg finished with only six field-goals made (6-for-19) in the second half while totaling just 19 points.
• The Vulcans posted a .324 field-goal percentage (22-of-68) on Tuesday.
• Cal finished with a  41-39 rebounding advantage, including a plus-nine edge in the second half, behind 23 offensive rebounds.
• The Vulcans scored 17 fastbreak points after forcing 23 turnovers in the victory.

NEXT
• The Vulcans travel to face Kutztown on Saturday, Dec. 21, with tipoff at 1 p.m.
• It marks the last PSAC Crossover contest of the season and the final game of the 2024 calendar year for Cal.
