CALIFORNIA (Dec. 18) – The California (PA) football team boasted a trio of Associated Press (AP) All-Americans on Wednesday afternoon, as senior offensive lineman
Jaheim Bassham, senior kicker
Anthony Beitko and junior defensive back
Rashan Murray earned national distinction.
Bassham and Beitko were lauded as AP First-Team All-Americans, while Murray was tabbed an AP Second-Team All-American. The Vulcans tied for the lead among the 43 teams in Super Region One with three standouts chosen to the AP All-America Teams this year. Cal featured three AP All-Americans for the first time since 2007 when the organization recognized three All-America Teams.
A team captain, Bassham received All-America status for the second time on Wednesday after being announced as an American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Second-Team All-American. He started all 13 games at center this season after making 23 career starts at left guard the previous three years. Bassham helped the Vulcans amass nearly 5,000 yards of total offense while averaging 27.3 points per game. Additionally, the Erie, Pennsylvania, native was a national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award and a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2024.
Beitko garnered AP All-America honors for the second time in his career after being an AP Second-Team All-American as a freshman. This fall, he totaled 75 points after converting 12-of-16 field goals and 39-of-40 PAT attempts. Beitko is tied for first among active kickers in NCAA Division II with 50 career field-goals made and ranks second with an .847 career field-goal percentage (50-of-59). The McKeesport product finished his career as the school's all-time leader among kickers with 306 total points – the most among active kickers in NCAA Division II.
A Pittsburgh native, Murray earned All-America laurels for the first time in his career. He tied for second in the nation with 18 passes defended behind four interceptions and 14 pass break-ups. Murray also established a career high with 39 tackles (27 solo) in his second year as a starter. The 6-foot-2 junior tallied the most passes defensed in a season by a Cal player since 2003.
A total of 16 Vulcans have been honored 20 times on the AP All-America Teams since 2005.
