CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Nov. 9) – The No. 6 Vulcans rolled to an 84-71 win over Glenville State on Saturday afternoon while continuing play at the Charleston (WV) Tip-Off Challenge.
NOTES
• California (2-0) opened the year with a pair of victories over teams that were slotted in the top half of the preseason Mountain East Conference (MEC) poll.
• Junior
Donald Whitehead, Jr. scored a career-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including six-of-nine from long range.
• Classmate
Bryson Lucas recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds (five offensive), plus added five assists, two blocks and two steals.
• Senior
Keith Palek III finished with 14 points on 6-of-11 from the floor and five rebounds.
• Sophomore
Dalman Alexander collected 10 points, three rebounds and two blocks off the bench.
• Senior
Kadyn Hannah posted 11 points and three rebounds in the victory.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 19-of-21 from the free-throw line (90.5 percent), including a perfect 10-of-10 in the second half.
• Cal limited Glenville State to only 24 points in the second half while shooting at a 24.2 clip (8-of-33) from the floor.
