EDINBORO, Pa. (Nov. 8) – Led by six players scoring in double-digits, the Vulcans opened the season with a 95-74 victory against West Liberty at the MEC/PSAC Conference Challenge on Friday evening.
NOTES
• California (1-0) earned a victory in its season-opener for the 10th-straight season.
• The Vulcans tallied their most points in a game since scoring 97 points against West Chester on Dec. 18, 2021.
• Cal scored its most points in a season-opening contest since the 2009-10 campaign (104, at West Virginia State).
• Junior
Alicia Young scored a career-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting on Friday.
• Seniors
Allycia Harris and
Iyahnna Williams both finished with 15 points in the victory.
• Harris also added six rebounds (all offensive), three assists and five steals versus the Hilltoppers.
• Sophomore
Nina Shaw collected 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.
• Seniors
Sierra Bermudez and
Talia Gilliard both scored 11 points while shooting a combined 10-of-15 from the floor.
• All five starters for the Vulcans scored in double-digits while none played more than 33 minutes.
• Cal scored 56 points in the paint and forced 28 turnovers in the victory, its seventh-straight in the series with West Liberty.
