Six Vulcans garner academic accolades

CALIFORNIA (Nov. 19) – The California (PA) women's soccer team placed six players on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior Izabella DeGlopper, senior Bella Gilberto, senior Emily Ouimet, senior Lorina Romeis, sophomore Caelin Thomas and senior Cora Wilkins earned honors from the organization. The trio of DeGlopper, Gilberto and Romeis collected the laurel for a consecutive year.

DeGlopper started all 18 games this season and tallied three points on one goal and one assist. She holds a 3.89 grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in communication science disorders.

A native of Hanover, Pennsylvania, Gilberto appeared in all 18 games with 12 starts and scored her first career goal this fall. She maintains a 3.68 GPA while completing a degree in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine.

Ouimet started 17 games this year and ranked among the top 10 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in both total saves and goalie minutes. She holds a 3.63 GPA while finishing a degree in business administration with a concentration in management information systems and a minor in management.

A native of Germany, Romeis started all 18 games this season and finished with two points on a pair of assists. She boasts a 3.95 GPA while completing a degree in mechatronics engineering technology.

Thomas made all 18 starts this fall and tallied her first career assist. She maintains a 3.93 GPA while majoring in computer science.

A native of Ohio, Wilkins started all 18 games this year and tallied three points on one goal and one assist. She completed her bachelor's degree in health science with a concentration in pre-athletic training and a minor in psychology with a 3.95 GPA last May. Wilkins currently boasts a 4.00 GPA as a graduate student while majoring in athletic training.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have played in 90 percent of the team's games or start 66 percent of the team's games. Additionally, each institution is capped at six nominees in the sport of women's soccer.
