Men's Soccer opens league play with win, 2-1

Bilous, Gretz score in consecutive game; Vulcans post second victory over The Rock in a decade

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 27) – The California (PA) men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the opening five minutes of the second half on Wednesday evening to secure a 2-1 victory over Slippery Rock to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans improve to 3-4-1 this season while opening league play with a victory for the second time in three years.
• The Rock falls to 1-3-3 overall and remain winless this year on the road.
• Cal earned only its second win over Slippery Rock in the last decade on Wednesday (2-11-1).

GAME ACTION
• The game was scoreless at the break with each team attempting three shot attempts in the first half.
• Cal took a 1-0 lead in the 47th minute on a goal by freshman Jacob Gretz on a free kick.
• The Vulcans added to the lead at the 49:33-mark when freshman Andriy Bilous beat a diving goalie with a double assist from Gretz and sophomore Brady Olsen.
• Slippery Rock later scored on a header in the 79th minute following a free kick.
• Sophomore AJ Visco collected three saves while registering his second-straight victory.

NOTES
• Bilous leads the team with three goals this year, all in the last two games.
• Gretz has tallied both a goal and an assist in back-to-back games.
