Vulcans rally past Bloomsburg, 3-2

Simon collects 38 assists, seven aces; Rugiero records third-straight double-double

CALIFORNIA (Sept. 2) – The California (PA) volleyball team closed its season-opening weekend with a 3-2 victory (14-25, 25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 15-11) against Bloomsburg while hosting the Vulcan Invitational at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS/SERIES
• California starts the year with a 3-0 record for only the second time in the last decade.
• The Vulcans posted an undefeated mark at their annual home invitational for the third time since debuting the event in 2013.
• California has won all three of its matches in five sets this fall.
• The Huskies start the year with an 0-3 mark after losing a trio of matches in five sets over the weekend.

NOTES
• Sophomore Elisa Rugiero tallied her third-consecutive kill/dig double-double, as finished with a team-leading 16 kills and 13 digs. She also added five blocks and three service aces against the Huskies.
• Junior Rachel Simon finished with a balanced line in the victory, directing the offense with 38 assists and collecting nine digs, seven service aces, five kills and three blocks. She became the first player with seven service aces in a match since Oct. 12, 2019.
• Junior Allie Droneberger registered 13 kills, seven digs and three service aces on Saturday.
• Senior Emily Buwawa paced the team with a season-high 20 digs and added a trio of service aces.
• Junior Sophia Johnson controlled the net with six blocks, equaling her combined total from yesterday.

NEXT
• The Vulcans travel to the Buffalo area next weekend for three matches at the Wildcat Den Classic hosted by Daemen in Amherst, New York.
