CALIFORNIA (Aug. 31) – The California (PA) women's soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven on Thursday evening at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility in non-conference play.
RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans open the year with a victory for the first time since 2019.
• Cal won its season-opening contest at home for the first time since the 2018 campaign.
• Lock Haven, which is led by first-year head coach Sunny Gelnovatch, was picked eighth in the preseason PSAC East poll two weeks ago.
• The Vulcans snapped a five-game losing streak against the Bald Eagles after posting an eight-game unbeaten streak in the series from 2009-15.
GAME ACTION
• The game was scoreless in the first period with the Bald Eagles attempting the only two shots over the initial 45 minutes.
• Freshman
Veronica Warunek scored in the 50th minute with an assist from sophomore
Kaylee Elwood.
• Cal increased the lead to 2-0 in the 86th minute on a goal by sophomore
Reagan Bromiley following a corner kick by junior
Lorina Romeis.
• The Bald Eagles answered less than three minutes with an unassisted goal by Evelyn Ciaccia.
• Junior
Emily Ouimet finished with four saves while facing seven shot attempts over 90 minutes.
NOTES
• Warunek became the first Cal freshman to score a goal in season-opener since 2010.
• Bromiley register her first collegiate goal after appearing in nine games last season.
• Ouimet collected her 10th career win while making her second career season-opening start.
• Five players made their debuts for the Vulcans in the win with

Meja Haakansson and
Caelin Thomas earning starts as true freshmen.
