Guldimann, Mungo tally victory at first doubles; Vulcans drop first home match of the spring

CALIFORNIA (April 7) – In their final non-conference match of the season, the Vulcans suffered a 7-0 loss versus Salem on Friday afternoon at Roadman Park.

With the loss, the California (PA) tennis team drops to 7-9 overall with three divisional matches left in the regular season. Meanwhile, the Tigers advance to 8-6 this season.

Salem won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. Freshmen Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zürich Nord) and Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) earned a 6-1 victory at first doubles versus Ana Kunic and Kylie Diaz. Sophomore Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) and junior Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) suffered a 6-4 loss to Anastasia Gerter and Lina Ziani at the second doubles position, while sophomore Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and junior Sierra Everett (Philadelphia, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) were dealt a 6-0 defeat by Daria Korsakova and Melanie Coric at the third slot.

The Tigers swept singles action on Friday to complete the match victory. Kunic picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Mungo at first singles and Guldimann was handed a 6-1, 7-5 loss by Gerter at the second slot. At the third position, Ojeda suffered a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Korsakova, while Duran lost at fourth singles to Ziani by a 6-3, 6-3 margin. Junior Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) dropped a match at the fifth slot by a score of 6-0, 6-1 to Diaz followed by sophomore Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) suffering a 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Coric at sixth singles.

Cal returns to action on Wednesday, April 12, as it hosts Edinboro in conference play at 3 p.m.
