KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 9) – The California (PA) tennis concluded its Florida trip on a high note on Thursday with a 5-2 victory over Warner (Fla.), a program in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
With the win, the Vulcans improve to 4-5 this season as they split their final four matches on the spring trip. Meanwhile, the Royals fall to 2-5 overall.
Cal swept the doubles competition as sophomore
Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) and freshman
Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zürich Nord) tallied a 6-1 win at first doubles over Riley Cook and Victoria Belisario. In the second position of doubles, junior
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman
Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) won by a 6-3 margin against Lauren Schiraldi and Carla Schneider. In the third slot of doubles, sophomores
Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and
Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) won by forfeit.
The Vulcans notched four victories in singles action to secure the win. Mungo won at first singles 6-3, 6-0 over Cook while Guldimann recorded a 6-4, 6-2 win against Alizee Piette in second singles. In the third singles slot, Ojeda was dealt a 6-4, 7-6, 1-0 loss to Belisario followed by Duran posting a 7-6, 4-1 won over Schiraldi at fourth singles. Junior
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) was handed a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Schneider at the fifth singles position before Oblock won sixth singles by way of forfeit.
Cal returns to action in one week on Friday, March 17, as it hosts Davis & Elkins in non-conference play at 2 p.m.
