GREENSBURG, Pa. (March 17) – After moving its match to the Greensburg Racquet Club due to rain in the forecast, the California (PA) tennis team notched a 7-0 win against Davis & Elkins in non-conference action on Friday.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 5-5 on the season after competing in their first match since the spring trip to Florida. Meanwhile, the Senators move to 0-2 this year.
Cal swept the doubles competition as sophomore
Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) and freshman
Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zürich Nord) earned a 6-2 at first doubles over Cara Long and Eloise Hutton. In the second doubles position, freshman
Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) and junior
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) tallied a 6-0 victory versus Heidi Daniels and Chavana Sreenath while sophomores
Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) and
Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won by forfeit in the third doubles slot.
During the singles competition, Mungo dealt Sreenath a 6-0, 6-2 loss in the first position followed by Guldimann posting a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Hutton at second singles. Ojeda registered a 6-2, 6-2 win versus Long at the third singles spot before Duran shutout Daniels with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Juniors
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and
Sierra Everett (Philadelphia, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) tallied wins at fifth and sixth singles by forfeit, respectively.
The Vulcans return to action on Thursday, March 23, as they travel to face West Virginia Wesleyan in non-league play at 4 p.m. in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
