ORLANDO (March 5) – The California (PA) tennis team opened its Spring Break trip to Florida on Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 loss to St. Cloud State (Minn.) at the United State Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 2-2 on the season with four additional matches scheduled in Florida this week. Meanwhile, the Huskies of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) improve to 3-3 overall under fifth-year head coach Berit Merrill.

St. Cloud State claimed the double point following a pair of wins in the session on Sunday. At the first slot, freshman Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zürich Nord) and sophomore Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) earned a 6-4 victory over Maria Paz Aoki and Claudia Muñoz Perez. Freshman Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) and junior Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) were dealt a 6-4 loss at the second position versus Oriana Grott and Johana Brower. At third doubles, junior Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and sophomore Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) fell by a 6-1 margin to Maria Molitor and Olivia Fredrickson.

The Huskies won a trio of singles matches to complete the match victory despite withdrawing from the match at fourth singles. Guldimann suffered a 6-3, 2-6, 1-4 loss to Grott in the first slot while Mungo notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Paz Aoki in second singles. Ojeda collected a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 win over Muñoz Perez in the third position. Duran earned the victory at fourth singles by default followed by Feltenberger being dealt a 6-0, 6-0 loss in the fifth position by Browser. Sophomore Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) lost at sixth singles by a 6-0, 6-0 margin to Molitor.
