FROSTBURG, Md. (March 29) – In a mid-week non-conference match, the California (PA) tennis team suffered a 6-1 loss at Frostburg State on Wednesday afternoon.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 6-7 overall this season. Meanwhile, the Bobcats advance to 7-6 overall after totaling just four wins last year.
Frostburg State swept doubles play to earn the opening point on Wednesday. Freshman

Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) were dealt a 6-4 defeat by Lorena Pintar and Alyssa Kush at first doubles. Junior
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman
Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) lost by a 6-3 margin at the second slot to Mariaspa Kotsiou and Julia Ramos Bentham, while junior
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and sophomore
Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) suffered a 6-1 loss to Immanuella Odiong and Femke Hofkamp at the third position.
During singles play, the Bobcats secured the match victory by winning five of the six matches. Mungo recorded a 6-3, 6-0, 12-10 victory over Kush at first singles and is now tied for the team lead with seven singles wins this year. Guldimann fell to Pintar by a score of 6-2, 6-1, 6-3 at the second slot and Ojeda surrendered a 6-3, 6-3 loss to Bentham at the third position. Duran was handed a 6-3, 7-5 defeat by Kotsiou at fourth singles and Feltenberger lost by a 6-2, 6-0 margin at the fifth slot to Odiong. Hoin lost to Toothman by a score of 6-4, 6-2 at the sixth position.
Cal returns to action on Saturday, April 1, when it hosts Clarion in PSAC West play at 12 p.m.
