LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (March 27) – Following a week that featured a trio of doubleheaders in a span of five days, California (PA) sophomore infielder
Kaitlyn Achtermeier (Gilford, Ontario/Bill Crothers) was chosen the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Achtermeier led the team with a .474 average and nine RBI over six games last week. She also posted a 1.313 OPS behind a .789 slugging percentage and scored five runs while tallying four multi-hit games. Achtermeier went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Game 2 on Tuesday in a doubleheader split at Pitt-Johnstown. The Canadian sophomore then tallied three hits with a three-run homer, five RBI and two runs scored the following day in a twinbill against Mercyhurst. Achtermeier closed the week by collecting four hits with a three-run homer, two runs scored, two walks and one steal in a doubleheader split versus Slippery Rock on Sunday.
A 5-foot-6 sophomore, Achtermeier paces the team this spring with a .429 average and 23 RBI. She also leads the team with a .667 slugging percentage and a .463 on-base percentage while registering 10 extra-base hits. Achtermeier has collected 10 multi-hit games while starting 21 games at four different positions this year.
Achtermeier received PSAC West Athlete of the Week honors for the second time in her career.
The Vulcans continue divisional play tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28, when they host IUP for a doubleheader at Lilley Field, starting at 2:30 p.m.
