Five Vulcans receive academic accolades

CALIFORNIA (May 26) – The California (PA) softball team placed five players on the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Cheyenne Beayon, sophomore Kirra Davis, senior Jenna Hollerich, sophomore Makayla Jerin and senior Mikayla Linkous earned honors from the organization. Linkous collected the accolade for a third-consecutive season, while Hollerich received the laurels for a second-straight year.

A native of Maryland, Beayon led the team with 15 relief appearances and finished with a 2-4 record and three saves. She worked 36.2 innings pitched over 20 appearances with five starts. Beayon holds a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) while majoring in psychology.

Davis posted a breakout season while leading the team with 13 homers, 41 RBI and runs scored. She also ranked second with a .351 average (53-for-151) and recorded a 1.141 OPS. Davis maintains a 3.76 GPA while majoring in health sciences with a minor in interdisciplinary studies.

A Pittsburgh native, Hollerich posted a .298 average (42-for-141) with 16 RBI and 17 runs scored. She also eclipsed 100 assists while starting 40 games at shortstop. Hollerich boasts a 3.94 GPA while majoring in health sciences with a minor in psychology.

Jerin finished as the team leader with a .365 average (54-for-148) and added 11 doubles, 26 RBI and 11 runs scored. She totaled a team-high 124 assists in her second year as a starter. Jerin holds a 3.77 GPA while majoring in early childhood and elementary education.

A native of Ohio, Linkous started 32 games this spring and finished with a .264 average (23-for-87) with nine RBI and 13 runs scored. She boasts a 3.96 GPA while majoring in health sciences with a minor in psychology.

To qualify for CSC Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, maintain a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have played in 90 percent of the team's games or started 66 percent of the team's games. For pitcher nominations, the minimum is 17 appearances or 35.0 innings pitched. Additionally, each institution is limited to five nominees in the sport of softball.

Davis and Jerin were chosen as CSC Academic All-America finalists and advance to the national ballot with the CSC Academic All-America Teams being announced next month.
