BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (March 26) – Playing on the road for a consecutive day, the California (PA) tennis team earned a 6-1 win against West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon in non-league play.
With the victory, the Vulcans improve to 6-6 overall while playing eight matches over the last three weeks. Meanwhile, the Bobcats fall to 0-6 this season.
Cal claimed the doubles point after sweeping the session for the third time this year. Freshman Leandra Guldiman (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zürich Nord) and sophomore
Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) earned a 7-5 win at first doubles over Cayley Symons and Omolade Aderemi. Juniors
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) notched a 6-0 victory at the second slot against Raelyn Vance and Megan Meyer, while sophomores
Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) and
Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) won at the third position by forfeit.
In singles competition, freshman
Diletta Maria Mungo (Padova, Italy/Liceo Classico Tito Livio) suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss at the first slot to Aderemi before Guldimann registered a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Symons at the second position. At third singles, Hoin collected a 6-2, 6-0 win against Meyer followed by Oblock earning a win at fourth singles by a 6-4, 6-1 margin versus Vance. Feltenberger and Duran won at the fifth and sixth slots by forfeit, respectively.
Cal returns to action on Wednesday, March 29, as it travels to face Frostburg State in a non-conference match, starting a 2 p.m.
