Cal extends win streak at Shepherd, 73-70

McClurg posts fourth 20-point game this season; Hall scores 18 points behind five three-pointers

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. (Dec. 2) –The Vulcans extended their winning streak to six games with a 73-70 victory at Shepherd in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play on Saturday afternoon.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's basketball team improves to 6-0 overall with a 2-0 record in league action.
• The Rams fall to 3-4 this season behind a 0-2 mark in conference play.
• The Vulcans have won all three meetings against the Rams since Shepherd joined the PSAC.
• Cal has started a year with six-consecutive victories for the first time since the 2003-04 campaign.

STATS
• Sophomore KJ McClurg posted his fourth 20-point game of the year and is now averaging 22.3 points per game.
• He scored a team-high 20 points on six-of-eight shooting and seven-of-nine from the free-throw line on Saturday.
• McClurg added seven rebounds and three assists while playing all 40 minutes.
• Senior Jermaine Hall, Jr. tallied 18 points behind five-of-seven from long range and six rebounds.
• Redshirt freshman Antoine Arnett finished with 13 points and eight rebounds (three offensive) in 29 minutes off the bench.
• Redshirt senior Zyan Collins collected 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

GAME ACTION
• Cal mounted a 16-4 run early in the first half to take a 19-6 lead at the 13:05-mark.
• The Rams countered with an 11-2 rally to trim the deficit to 21-17 with 9:49 left in the first half.
• The Vulcans later extended their lead back to double-digits before the Rams posted an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 34-32 at the 1:47-mark.
• Hall then made a pair of three-pointers in the final 35 seconds of the first half to give Cal a 40-32 lead at the break.
• The Vulcans scored six of the initial eight points in the second half to seize a 46-34 lead with 16:38 left to play.
• Cal was later held without a field goal for nearly five minutes with Shepherd cutting the deficit to 51-47 at the 9:01-mark.
• The Vulcans again stretched the lead to double-digits with 6:44 remaining before the Rams later made it a one-possession game in the final minute by scoring eight points.
• Cal finished the game shooting 50.0 percent (25-of-50) from the floor and converted 15-of-21 (71.4 percent) from the free-throw line.
• Shepherd senior Daniel McClain-Corley and sophomore Stefan Marcelle tied for the team lead with 14 points.

NEXT
• The Vulcans are idle for over a week before hosting Chestnut Hill at Hamer Hall for their home-opener on Dec. 10 at 1 p.m.
