Bermudez, Shaw combine for eight three-pointers in second half; Vulcans collect 24 offensive rebounds

CALIFORNIA (Dec. 12) – Led by a combined 30 second-half points from freshman Nina Shaw and junior Sierra Bermudez, the No. 17 Vulcans erased a 16-point halftime deficit to record a 72-68 victory against No. 15 Fairmont State at the Convocation Center in non-conference play on Tuesday evening.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) women's basketball team improves to 7-1 this season behind a 5-0 record at home.
• The Fighting Falcons fall to 8-1 overall after being picked fourth in the preseason MEC poll.
• Cal has won four of the six meetings against Fairmont State since the 2012-13 campaign with the home team winning each time.

STATS
• Shaw scored a season-high 20 points (15 second half) on 7-of-12 shooting, including four-of-six from beyond the arc.
• She also added five assists while playing all 40 minutes on Tuesday.
• Bermudez finished with 18 points (15 second half) behind six-of-nine from long range in 22 minutes off the bench.
• She has converted at least six three-pointers in a game three times this year.
• Sophomore Alicia Young set a career high with 15 points on 7-of-16 from the floor and added six rebounds.
• Junior Allycia Harris collected a season-high 13 rebounds (five offensive) and two blocks while playing 35 minutes.

• Fairmont State held a 13-6 lead at the 4:53-mark of the first quarter and maintained a 16-11 advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
• The Fighting Falcons mounted a 14-2 run in the second quarter to seize a 30-15 lead with 3:09 left before halftime.
• Fairmont State took its largest lead of the game at the break following a layup in the closing seconds of the second quarter.
• The Vulcans posted a 13-3 run to open the third quarter and cut the deficit to 40-34 at the 3:50-mark.
• Cal held the Fairmont State scoreless for nearly the initial five minutes of the third quarter.
• The Vulcans made it a single-possession game with 1:20 left in the third quarter before trailing by a 48-43 margin at the end of the quarter.
• Cal rallied off 13-unanswered points, including a combined 12 by Bermudez and Shaw, in the early portion of the fourth quarter to take a 58-53 lead with 5:56 remaining.
• The Fighting Falcons cut the deficit to a single point twice and trailed by just two points twice in the final minute.

• The Vulcans tied their season high with 10 three-pointers made (eight second half) while converting at a 47.6 clip (10-of-21) from long range.
• Cal finished with a plus-13 advantage in rebounds behind 24 offensive rebounds.
• Fairmont State senior Alyssa DeAngelo scored a team-high 20 points behind four-of-seven from beyond the arc.
