Men's Basketball wins in OT at 'Ville, 89-87

McClurg posts third 20-point game this season; Vulcans play first OT game in four years

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. (Dec. 1) – The California (PA) men's basketball team featured five players scoring in double-digit on Friday evening while posting an 89-87 overtime victory at Millersville to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover action.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans improve to 5-0 this season with all five games being on the road or at neutral sites.
• The Marauders fall to 4-2 overall behind a 4-1 mark at home.
• Cal has won the last three meetings in the series with Millersville.
• The Vulcans were playing their first overtime contest since a double-overtime victory at Millersville on Dec. 21, 2019.

STATS
• Sophomore KJ McClurg led the team in scoring with 27 points behind 6-of-11 shooting and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.
• He also added three rebounds and four assists in the victory.
• Senior Jermaine Hall, Jr. registered a double-double with 13 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, plus three steals.
• Redshirt freshman Antoine Arnett tallied 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 23 minutes off the bench.
• Sophomore Donald Whitehead, Jr. finished with nine points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals while playing all 45 minutes.
• Redshirt sophomore Bryson Lucas collected 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two blocks before fouling out.
• Redshirt senior Zyan Collins added 14 points and five rebounds in the win.

GAME ACTION
• Cal posted a 10-2 run early in the first half to take 14-11 lead at the 11:29-mark.
• The Vulcans stretched the lead to as many as seven points in the first half.
• Millersville cut the deficit to as few as one point before entering the break trailing by a 37-35 margin.
• The Vulcans mounted a 12-4 run in the opening minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 49-41 at the 16:11-mark.
• Millersville scored six-straight points midway through the second half to trim the deficit to 61-60 with 8:39 left in regulation.
• The Marauders later held a 74-70 lead at the 3:18-mark before the Vulcans reclaimed the lead with 35 seconds remaining on a three-pointer by McClurg.
• Cal later forced overtime by making a free-throw in the closing seconds of the second half.
• The Vulcans started the overtime period on an 8-3 run to take an 84-79 lead with 2:26 left to play.
• Millersville worked the deficit down to 86-85 with 26 seconds remaining.
• Cal then preserved the win by making three-of-four free-throws.
• The Vulcans finished the game shooting 47.0 percent (31-of-66) from the floor and converted 22-of-27 from the charity stripe (81.5 percent).
• Cal scored 48 points from inside the paint on Friday.
• Millersville graduate student Jaden Faulkner, a two-time All-PSAC East selection, scored 22 points behind 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

• The Vulcans continue their weekend road trip when they face Shepherd tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m.
