Vulcans edge past Lincoln, 87-86

McClurg scores career-high 31 points; Teams combine for seven lead changes, 10 ties in second half

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. (Nov. 22) – Sophomore KJ McClurg scored a career-high 31 points and redshirt senior Zyan Collins made the go-ahead basket in the closing seconds, as the Vulcans earned an 87-86 win at Lincoln (Pa.) in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's basketball team improves to 4-0 overall behind three victories against CIAA members.
• The Lions fall to 2-3 this season after advancing to the CIAA Championship last year.
• Cal and Lincoln have split the meetings over the last two years with the road team winning each time after previously not playing in over a decade.

STATS
• McClurg posted 31 points (19 second half) on 8-of-13 shooting, including four-of-seven from long range, and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.
• He also added five rebounds on Wednesday before fouling out in the final minute.
• Collins scored 17 points on 6-of-10 from the floor and four-of-five from the charity stripe while making his first start of the year.
• Senior Jermaine Hall, Jr. posted 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the victory.
• Sophomore Donald Whitehead, Jr. scored 12 points behind four-of-seven from beyond the arc.
• Redshirt sophomore Bryson Lucas tallied nine points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals before fouling out with 4:19 remaining.

GAME ACTION
• Lincoln posted an 11-2 run after making five-of-seven shots early in the first half to take a 16-9 lead at the 14:46-mark.
• The Vulcans responded with a 10-1 rally behind a pair of three-pointers to take a 21-20 lead with 10:09 left before halftime.
• Lincoln countered with a 16-3 run to take its largest lead of the game, 38-27, at the 4:16-mark of the first half.
• The Vulcans closed the half on an 11-3 rally to cut the deficit to 41-38 at the break.
• Cal took a 51-47 lead with 15:37 left in the second half before the teams tied the score eight times over the next seven minutes.
• The Vulcans posted an 11-4 run over three minutes to take their largest lead of the game at 81-73 with 4:51 remaining.
• Lincoln scored eight-straight points in the final minutes to take an 86-85 lead with 34 seconds left to play.
• Cal responded with the go-ahead jumper by Collins with 14 seconds remaining, 87-86.
• The teams combined for 12 lead changes and 13 ties, including 10 in the second half.
• Lincoln junior Bakir Cleveland scored a team-high 21 points behind 10-of-13 from the free-throw line.
• Classmate junior Reggie Hudson finished with 19 points, four rebounds and five assists in the loss.

NEXT
• The Vulcans are idle for over a week before beginning PSAC Crossover play on Dec. 1 by traveling to face Millersville at 5 p.m.
