Rugiero posts double-digit kills for 10th time; Droneberger, Simon record double-doubles in loss

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 6) – The California (PA) volleyball team claimed the opening set on Friday evening before suffering a 3-1 loss (22-25, 25-16, 25-23, 27-25) to Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Convocation Center.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The Vulcans drop to 6-6 overall with a 1-4 mark in divisional action.
• The Rock improves to 11-7 this season behind a 3-3 record against league opponents.
• Slippery Rock has won back-to-back meetings in the series after Cal won 28-straight matches dating back to the 2006 season.

NOTES
• Sophomore Elisa Rugiero led the team with 14 kills on a .318 hitting percentage.
• She has now posted double-digit kills in 10 matches this season and ranks among the top 10 in the PSAC with 3.48 points per set.
• Junior Allie Droneberger finished with 13 kills on 50 attempts and added 12 digs for her third-straight kill/dig double-double.
• Freshman Sarah Stephenson tallied 10 kills on Friday and has registered double-digit points four times in her last six matches.
• Junior Rachel Simon collected an assist/dig double-double against The Rock with 26 assists and 10 digs, plus collected three service aces.
• Senior Emily Buwawa led the defensive effort with 15 digs and sophomore Tayla Pascoe finished with 13 digs on Friday.
• Junior Sophia Johnson tied her season high with six blocks in the losing effort.

• Cal closes out its four-match homestand tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 7, when it faces Seton Hill at the Convocation Center, starting at 1 p.m.
