Visco records career-high nine saves in losing effort; Vulcans close first half of divisional play

CALIFORNIA (Oct. 14) – Facing the defending-league champions, the Vulcans fell by a 2-0 margin against No. 20 Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.

RECORDS/SERIES
• The California (PA) men's soccer team falls to 3-9-1 overall with a 1-4 mark in league action.
• The Lakers improve to 11-1 this season behind a 4-1 record against divisional opponents after winning its first league title since 2016.
• Mercyhurst extended its unbeaten streak in the series against Cal to 14 games (11-0-3), a streak that dates back to the 2012 season.

GAME ACTION
• The Lakers took a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on a header by Ignacio Gallego off a corner kick.
• Mercyhurst eventually added an insurance goal from Gallego, his fifth goal of the season, at the 64:50-mark.
• Sophomore AJ Visco registered a career-high nine saves after facing 16 shots, including 11 in the second half.
