FAIRMONT, W.Va. (Sept. 27) – Playing its first road match of the fall, the California (PA) tennis team dropped a 7-0 match at Fairmont State on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 1-2 this season in dual matches. Meanwhile, the Fighting Falcons improve to 2-0 overall with both matches being against PSAC West members.

Fairmont State opened play by sweeping the doubles session on Tuesday afternoon. At the first position, freshman Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zurich Nord) and sophomore Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) suffered a 6-3 loss to Maria Fonseca and Ainara Pastor Garcia. Juniors Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) dropped a 6-1 match at the second position to Candela Sevilla and Elodie Buclin. At third doubles, junior Sierra Everett (Philadelphia, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and sophomore Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) were dealt a 6-0 defeat by Emma McKnight and Mackenzie Sorton.

The Fighting Falcons completed the match sweep by winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
