LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (Aug. 25) – The Vulcans scored late in the first half on Thursday night and held a halftime lead before suffering a 3-1 season-opening loss at Lock Haven in non-conference action.
With the loss, the California (PA) women's soccer team begins the season with a 0-1 mark. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles open the fall with a 1-0 record under interim head coach Peter Campbell, who previously served as head coach of the program for three years (1999, 2000 and 2004).

Elisabeth Engle (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) scored off an assist from sophomore
Adriana Marina (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), 1-0. The Vulcans were able to maintain the lead into the break on Thursday.
The Bald Eagles tied the game at 1-1 in the 51st minute when Josie Swartz scored on a free kick. Swartz broke the tie with her second goal of the game at the 55:31-mark with an assist from Leana Cuzzocrea. Lock Haven added an insurance goal in the 70th minute when Janessa Swartz scored off a feed from Sydney Bolles.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Williams (Center, Ohio/Olentangy) made her collegiate debut and notched five saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Lock Haven out-shot Cal by the 19-7 margin, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Bald Eagles also held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
Cal is back in action on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as it hosts IUP in PSAC West play at 6 p.m.
