Divonne Franklin (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) was chosen to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Winter Top 10 on Tuesday afternoon announced the league office.
The PSAC Top 10 Awards, which are selected by the league's sports information directors, recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). The sports eligible for consider for the Winter Top 10 Awards are men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's indoor track & field and wrestling.
Franklin posted a spectacular indoor campaign for the Vulcans, as she was chosen both the PSAC Track Athlete of the Year and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Track Athlete of the Year. She placed fourth in the finals of the 60-meter dash and broke the all-time PSAC record in the event with a time of 7.427 seconds while at the NCAA Championships. Franklin repeated as the conference champion in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash while helping Cal U place second in the team standings to earn its first-ever trophy in track & field. The 5-foot-10 senior set both the all-time conference and league championship record with a time of 24.53 seconds in the finals of the 200 meters. Franklin won the 60 meters at the PSAC Championships after setting the championship record during the preliminaries with a time of 7.52 seconds.
A native of Philadelphia, Franklin maintains a 3.59 cumulative GPA while pursuing a bachelor's degree in biology with a concentration in pre-medicine and a minor in chemistry. She becomes the school's first PSAC Top 10 selection from a women's sport since the fall of 2018, plus is the seventh women's track & field honoree since the winter of 2014. Last spring, Franklin was selected to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for the first time in her career.
Cal U was one of only two schools in the league to feature both a men's and women's recipient on the PSAC Winter Top 10 this year. The Vulcans last featured multiple honorees on the same Top 10 in the spring of 2016.
All Top 10 Award winners from each season – fall, winter, spring – are eligible for the PSAC Pete Nevins Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, which are given to one male and one female candidate.
