CALIFORNIA (April 15) – Facing the top-ranked team in the Atlantic Region, the Vulcans suffered a 6-1 loss to IUP on Friday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at Roadman Park.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team falls to 8-7 this season behind a 1-3 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the nationally ranked Crimson Hawks improve to 12-7 overall with a 5-0 record in divisional action.
IUP secured the doubles point after sweeping the matches in the session. At first doubles, sophomore

Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) dropped a 6-1 contest at the second position to Karolin Kirchtag and Katy Graydon. At the third slot, sophomore

Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) fell by a 6-0 margin to Lydia Vlachou and Laura Dunarova
The Crimson Hawks won five of the six singles matches on Friday to claim the match victory. Duran fell by a 6-0, 6-1 margin to Kirchtag in the first slot, while Del Mar Ojeda won by default over Stralka at the second position. Winseck dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at third singles to Munday and Feltenberger was downed by Graydon by a 6-0, 6-1 margin at the fourth position. Anastos fell by a 6-0, 6-0 count to Vlachou at fifth singles, while Iacob was blanked by Dunarova, 6-0, 6-0, at the sixth slot.
Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, April 19, when it travels to Slippery Rock for a PSAC West contest, beginning at 4 p.m.
