ERIE, Pa. (April 13) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at Edinboro on Wednesday morning in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Westwood Racquet Club.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 8-6 overall with a 1-2 mark in conference action. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 10-7 this season behind a 2-2 record in league play.
Edinboro swept the doubles session on Wednesday to secure the doubles point. At the first slot, sophomore
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman
Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) suffered a 6-0 loss against Rafaella De Almeida and Luciana Ponce. Senior
Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman
Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) dropped a 6-1 contest at the second position to Marina Zottele and Maria Clara Salomao. At third doubles, sophomore
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and freshman
Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) fell by a 6-1 margin to Sandra Riecken and Vidisha Pallamreddy.
The Fighting Scots swept all six singles matches in the session on Wednesday to capture the match victory. Duran suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Pallamreddy at the first slot and Del Mar Ojeda was downed by Ponce at the second position by a 6-6 (3-0), 6-4 count. Winseck dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match at third singles to De Almeida, while Feltenberger fell to Zottele at the fourth position by a 6-1, 6-0 margin. Anastos was dealt a 6-0, 6-1 loss by Ana Nadai at fifth singles and Iacob suffered a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Riecken at the sixth position.
Cal U returns to action on Saturday, April 16, when it hosts IUP on Senior Day in PSAC West action at Roadman Park, beginning at 1 p.m.
