Tennis records win over Salem, 5-2

Feltenberger totals two victories; Vulcans post four wins in singles play

CALIFORNIA (April 12) – Behind four wins in singles play, the Vulcans recorded a 5-2 win over Salem in non-conference play on Tuesday afternoon at Roadman Park.

With the victory, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 8-5 this season while posting a 4-4 record at home. Meanwhile, the Tigers - a NCAA Division II independent program - fall to 3-11 overall.

After falling at first doubles, the Vulcans were able to capture victories at the second and third position to register the doubles point. Senior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) fell to Ana Kunic and Anastasia Gerter at first doubles by a 6-0 count. At the second slot, sophomore Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and freshman Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) captured a 6-2 victory over Chloe Owens and Miriam Buendia, while sophomore Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano De Cali) won by default at third doubles.

Cal U was able to sweep the bottom half of the singles session on Tuesday to capture the match victory. Duran dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Kunic at the first slot, while Del Mar Ojeda suffered a 6-2, 6-4 loss to Gerter at the second position. Feltenberger claimed a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Owens at third singles and Iacob defeated Buendia by a 6-0, 6-1 count at the fourth position. Winseck and Anastos closed singles play in the match, winning by default at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Vulcans return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13, when they travel to Edinboro for a PSAC West contest, beginning at 4 p.m.
