Winseck, Iacob capture win at second doubles; Lakers post victories in all six singles matches

CALIFORNIA (April 10) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team dropped a 7-0 match against Mercyhurst at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 7-5 overall with a 1-1 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Lakers improve to 7-10 this season and hold a 2-1 record in divisional action.

Mercyhurst captured the doubles point on Sunday after winning a pair of matches in the session. At the first slot, sophomore Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) suffered a 6-0 loss against Naomi Jahr and Nadja Ostojic. Senior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) captured a 6-4 victory over Janice Theodora and Sara Bertolez Puente at the second position. At third doubles, sophomore Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and freshman Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) fell by a 6-0 margin to Roisin Murphy and Valentine Budin.

The Lakers swept all six singles matches at Roadman Park on Sunday to capture the match victory. Duran suffered a 6-0, 2-6, 10-6 loss to Jahr at the first slot and Del Mar Ojeda was downed by Ostojic at the second position by a 6-0, 6-4 count. Winseck dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match at third singles to Murphy, while Feltenberger was blanked 6-0, 6-0 by Puente at the fourth position. Anastos was dealt a 6-1, 6-1 loss by Theodora at fifth singles and Iacob suffered a 6-0, 6-3 loss to Budin at the sixth position.

Cal U returns to action on Tuesday, April 12, when it hosts Salem at Roadman Park for a non-conference match, beginning at 3 p.m.
