CALIFORNIA (Oct. 8) – A pair of first-half goals helped the Vulcans register a 2-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Senior Day in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the win, the Vulcans advance to 4-5-2 this season with a 4-4-2 record in league action. Cal has won three-straight games for the first time since the 2015 campaign, which also is the last time it won at least four games in conference play. Meanwhile, the Mountain Cats drop to 4-5-3 overall behind a 4-4-2 conference mark.

Kaylee Elwood (Apollo, Pa./Kiski) converted on a penalty kick to give the Vulcans a 2-0 lead. Cal continued to attack the net, as it recorded a pair of corner kicks with a shot attempt from the 22nd to the 27th minutes. In the closing five minutes of the first half, UPJ tallied a pair of shot attempts with both saved by sophomore goalkeeper
Emily Ouimet (Berwick, Pa./Berwick).
The Mountain Cats applied the pressure early in the second half with two shot attempts in the 55th minute. From the 60th minute to the 63rd minute, UPJ posted two attempts and a pair of corner kicks. Cal was able to control the ball until the Mountain Cats were able to get on the scoreboard at the 89:44-mark with Emily Esser scoring her fourth goal on the season.
Ouimet collected seven saves in 90 minutes, marking her fourth win of the season.
UPJ out-shot Cal with an 11-8 edge, while the Mountain Cats also held the advantage in corner kicks by a 6-3 margin.
The Vulcans return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as they host Clarion in PSAC West action at 6 p.m.
