SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Vulcans closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 6-1 victory at Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference play.

With the win, the California (PA) tennis team improves to 2-2 this season in dual matches. Meanwhile, the Raiders fall to 1-3 overall under first-year head coach Sheila Bush.

The Vulcans captured the doubles point on Wednesday after winning two of the three matches. Cal opened the session with a victory by forfeit at third doubles before freshman Leandra Guldimann (Oberweningen, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Zurich Nord) and sophomore Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) posted a 6-1 victory at the first slot over Brooklyn Rupert and Brighid Cantwell. At the second position, junior Sierra Everett (Philadelphia, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and sophomore Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) suffered a 6-4 loss to Kendall Winters and Sahar Islam.

Cal earned the match victory by winning five of the six matches in singles play. The Vulcans claimed a win at the sixth slot by forfeit before sophomore Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano de Cali) registered a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the first position against Rupert. Junior Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) then outlasted Cantwell by a 6-0, 4-6, 10-3 margin at second singles and Iacob earned a 6-2, 2-6, 10-7 win at the third slot against Winters. At the fourth position, junior Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) claimed a 2-6, 6-4, 10-6 victory over Islam. Sophomore Anna Oblock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was dealt a 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-4 defeat by Katelyn Hanft at fifth singles.
