SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. (Oct. 19) – The Vulcans trailed by a one-goal margin at halftime on Wednesday afternoon before suffering a 5-0 loss at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
With the loss, the California (PA) men's soccer team falls to 3-9-1 overall behind a 1-6 conference record. Meanwhile, The Rock improves to 5-7-2 this season with a 3-4-1 mark in league play.
Cal attacked early in the first half with a pair of corner kicks in a 35-second span. The Vulcans maintained possession of the ball in the Slippery Rock zone with junior
Kobe Norfleet (Monongahela, Pa./Ringgold) posting a pair of shots in the third minute that were blocked. At the 9:28-mark, The Rock took a 1-0 lead when Arturo Pla Hernandis scored in the bottom right of the goal. Sophomore
Logan Errett (McDonald, Pa./Trinity) recorded a shot that was blocked in the 11th minute followed by a shot on net by senior
Jake Nebinski (Ardara, Pa./Norwin) on a free kick that was saved at the 14:37-mark. Senior
Evan Blunkosky (McDonald, Pa./West Allegheny) attempted a shot on goal that was saved in the 32nd minute and classmate
Chance Pursifull (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View) tallied an on net attempt at the 42:52-mark resulting in a save by Slippery Rock.
The Rock extended its lead to a 2-0 margin after Ramses Minyana connected on a shot that went to the top left corner of the net in the 47th minute. Slippery Rock controlled the ball, as it tallied four shots and held Cal to zero shot attempts in the initial 20 minutes of the second half. Shaun Spencer gave The Rock a 3-0 advantage at the 71:33-mark off an assist from Minyana. The Vulcans recorded a corner kick which was converted to a shot attempt by Errett in the 74th minute. Pla Hernandis laced his second goal of the game to give Slippery Rock a 4-0 lead at the 74:19-mark. Errett registered another on goal shot in the 82nd minute, however, the attempt was saved. At the 86:43-mark, Alex Plimmer converted a penalty kick that gave The Rock a 5-0 lead.

AJ Visco (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford) collected two saves over 90 minutes on Wednesday.
Slippery Rock out-shot Cal by a 13-9 margin, while the Vulcans held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vulcans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22, as they host Gannon in divisional action at 2:30 p.m.
