Cal U blanked at Davis & Elkins, 6-0

Senators upset 2019 National Champion, No. 1 Charleston earlier this week

ELKINS, W.Va. (Sept. 18) – The California University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team was blanked by a 6-0 count at Davis & Elkins in non-conference play on Saturday night.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 0-4-1 overall while playing their first road game since the season-opener on Sept. 2. Meanwhile, the Senators improve to 4-0 this season after upsetting No. 1 Charleston (W.Va.), the 2019 NCAA National Champions, earlier this week.

D&E sized a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute on its initial shot of the game. After a shot attempt by Cal U sailed wide, the Senators scored twice in just over four minutes to extend the lead to 3-0 midway through the first period. D&E added its final goal of the period in the 44th minute.

In the opening three minutes of the second period, Daniel Cerezo notched his goal of the game to stretch the lead to 5-0. The Senators collected the final goal of the game in the 54th minute.

Sophomore Trevor Zabilowicz (Toms River, N.J./Toms Rivers East) posted five saves while facing 16 shots in the losing effort.

D&E finished the game with a 16-3 shot advantage and held a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

The Vulcans return to action when they open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play by traveling to face Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, Sept. 25, with play starting at 12 p.m.
