Vulcans downed at Seton Hill, 7-0

Cal U features two new doubles pairings in the match

GREENSBURG, Pa. (April 11) – The Vulcans suffered a 7-0 loss against Seton Hill on Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action while playing at the Greensburg Racquet Club.

With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team drops to 1-6 overall with a 1-4 record in divisional play. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 4-3 this season behind a 3-2 mark in league action.

Seton Hill swept doubles play on Saturday to secure the doubles point in the match. Senior Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) and junior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) moved to first doubles for the first time this season and suffered a 6-1 loss to Kaelyn Zak and Jenna Bailey. At the second slot, freshmen Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) dropped a 6-4 contest against Cameron Beer and Kaitlyn Walch. Senior Laura Vargas (Bogota, Colombia/Siglo XXI) and junior Julia McDaniel (South Park, Pa./South Park) fell by a 6-0 margin at the third position to Kendall McCluskey and Julianna Begley.

The Griffins claimed the match victory by sweeping all six singles matches. Vargas was downed by a 6-3, 6-0 count at the first slot by Zak and Winseck fell by a 6-1, 6-0 margin against Beer at second singles. Gallagher dropped a 6-4, 6-0 match at the third position to Bailey and Duran was outlasted by Walch at the fourth slot by a 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 count. Feltenberger suffered a 6-1, 6-1 loss at fifth singles against Marlayna Verenna and junior Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) fell by a 6-4, 6-1 margin to Begley at the sixth position.

Cal U returns to action when it travels to face Frostburg State in non-conference play on Friday, April 16, in Frostburg, Maryland, at 4 p.m.
