Gallagher, Winseck earn first victory of the year at second doubles

CALIFORNIA (March 30) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team dropped a 7-0 match against Edinboro at Roadman Park in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play on Tuesday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans drop to 0-4 this season with a 0-2 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Scots improve to 2-5 overall and hold a 1-2 record in divisional action.

Edinboro captured the doubles point on Tuesday after winning a pair of matches in the session. At the first slot, senior Laura Vargas (Bogota, Colombia/Siglo XXI) and freshman Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) suffered a 6-0 loss against Kaede Tada and Torye Calleja. Senior Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) and junior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) claimed a 6-3 victory at the second position over Marina Zottele and Ana Nadai. At third doubles, freshman Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and junior Julia McDaniel (South Park, Pa./South Park) were downed by a 6-3 margin by Lauren Chiacchia and Emily Cevera on Tuesday.

The Fighting Scots swept all six singles matches at Roadman Park to capture the match victory. Vargas dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Tada at the first position and Winseck fell by a 6-1, 6-3 margin to Calleja at the second slot. Gallagher suffered a 6-1, 6-7, 10-6 loss to Zottele at third singles and Duran was downed by a 7-5, 7-5 margin by Nadai at the fourth position. Feltenberger was outlasted by a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 count at the fifth slot by Anna Zak and junior Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) was dealt a 6-3, 6-0 loss by Cevera at sixth singles.

Cal U returns to the courts on Saturday, April 3, when it hosts Clarion at Roadman Park, starting at 11 a.m.
