CALIFORNIA (Nov. 3) – In their final home contest of the season, the Vulcans dropped a 1-0 loss to Seton Hill on Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play at the Phillipsburg Soccer Facility.
With the loss, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team falls to 3-12-1 overall with a 3-11-1 mark in conference action. Meanwhile, the Griffins improve to 6-9-1 this season behind a 5-9-1 record in league action.
In the first half, both teams started slow as they combined for four shots in the initial 15 minutes of the contest. After a header and two corner kicks, the Griffins rattled off three shots within a three-minute span, two of which were saved my freshman goalkeeper
Emily Ouimet (Berwick, Pa./Berwick). The Vulcans countered with two shots and a corner kick of their own before both teams combined for three shots in the final four minutes.
At the 56:35-mark, Corynna Rotoli took a pass from Alexis Garia and beat the goalkeeper in the bottom left corner of the net to give Seton Hill a 1-0 lead. The Vulcans put a shot on goal before the Griffins responded with two corner kicks and a shot on net. Cal U recorded two corner kicks and a shot on goal in a two-minute span, but were unable to capitalize. Seton Hill tallied two more corner kicks and a header before the Vulcans answered with a shot in the 88th
minute.
Ouimet finished with four saves while playing a scoreless first half on Wednesday. Sophomore
Katie Ramaley (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) made one save in the second half while making her fifth appearance of the season.
Seton Hill finished with a slim 12-11 shot advantage, while both teams placed six shots on goal, and the Griffins also held a 6-5 lead in corner kicks.
Cal U closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 6, when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania, to face Mercyhurst in divisional play at 5 p.m.
