Cal U remains fourth in regional rankings

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 1) – The California University of Pennsylvania football team remained fourth in the latest NCAA Division II Super Region One rankings, which were released on Monday evening.

The Super Region One rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Playoffs. Super Region One consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), Mountain East Conference (MEC), Northeast-10 (NE-10) Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with seven of the 45 teams from the four leagues making the field for the NCAA Playoffs.

The top-six teams were unchanged from the initial regional rankings. Bentley (Mass.) of the NE-10 remains the top-ranked team in the rankings with an 8-0 record following a 10-point home victory last weekend. Kutztown (8-1) and Shepherd (8-1) continue to sit second and third, respectively, while the Golden Bears have secured a berth in the PSAC Championship with their win over the weekend. Cal U (8-0) and Notre Dame (Ohio) (8-1) continue to round out the top five in the Super Region rankings.

New Haven (Conn.) (7-1) remained at the sixth position, while Slippery Rock (8-1) moved one slot to seventh this week. The remainder of the teams in the seedings made their debuts in the regional rankings this year. Shippensburg (7-2) sits eighth in the rankings, while Tiffin (6-2) and Findlay (6-3) complete the top 10 in the latest regional rankings.

The final regional rankings will be announced on Nov. 14 with the top-seven teams earning a berth to the NCAA Playoffs. The top team in the final rankings will receive a first-round bye and hosting rights in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs.

Cal U closes out PSAC West play on Saturday, Nov. 6, when it travels to face Slippery Rock in a pivotal regional contest at 1 p.m. The winner of the game will play Kutztown in the PSAC Championship on Nov. 13.
