Tennis captures victory at Lock Haven, 6-1

Cal U closes fall season four dual wins; Sisters Fallon, Gia Winseck record multiple wins

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. (Oct 23) – The Vulcans closed out the fall portion of their schedule with a 6-1 win against Lock Haven in non-conference play at the Central PA Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis team improves to 4-3 this fall with two wins against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East members. Meanwhile, the Bald Eagles fall to 2-3 overall.

The Vulcans recorded the doubles point after winning matches at the second and third positions. In the first slot, sophomore Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and freshman Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Americano De Cali) dropped at 6-1 match to Maddy Reeves and Mia Shuler. The sister tandem of senior Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and freshman Gia Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) posted a 6-3 victory over Delani Wolever and Christy McLean at the second position while playing as a doubles team for the first time this year. At third doubles, sophomore Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franklin) and freshman Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) captured a 6-3 win over Hailey Risley and Olivia Sharp.

Cal U earned the match victory after winning five singles matches on Saturday. In the first position, Duran suffered a 6-1, 6-0 defeat by Reeves, while Del Mar Ojeda won by opponent retirement at the second slot. Fallon Winseck earned a 3-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory over Wolever at third singles, while Gia Winseck tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win over McLean at the fourth position. Freshman Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario)) registered a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Risley in the fifth slot and Feltenberger closed out the scoring with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sharp at sixth singles.
