ELKINS, W.Va. (Oct. 12) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team dropped a 5-2 contest at Davis & Elkins in non-conference play on Tuesday evening.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 3-3 overall while playing their first road match in over two weeks.
Davis & Elkins captured the doubles point after winning two matches in the session. At the first slot, sophomore
Carmen Duran (Barcelona, Spain/Esteve Albert) and senior
Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) suffered a 6-3 loss to Taylor Newman and Carter Nettina. Freshmen
Maria Del Mar Ojeda (Cali Colombia/Colegio Americano De Cali) and
Teodora Iacob (Bucharest, Romania/O'Neill CVI (Ontario) fell by a 6-2 margin at the second position to Eloise Hutton and Cara Long. At third doubles, freshman
Olivia Hoin (Maineville, Ohio/Kings) and sophomore
Kylie Feltenberger (Polk, Pa./Franlkin) captured a 6-6, 7-4 victory over Elysia Cain and Heidi Daniels.
The Senators captured wins at the top four singles positions on Tuesday. Duran suffered a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Newman at the first slot, while Del Mar Ojeda dropped a 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 match to Hutton at the second slot. Winseck was dealt a 6-3, 6-2 loss by Nettina at the third slot and Iacob dropped a 6-2, 6-0 match to Long at the fourth spot. The Vulcans were able to win singles matches at the last two positions in the lineup. Felternberger captured a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Cain at the fifth position and
Olivia Anastos (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) posted a 6-3, 2-6, 10-4 win over Courtney Roth at sixth singles.
Cal U closes out the fall season on Friday, Oct. 15, when it travels to face Lock Haven in non-conference play at 4 p.m.
