CALIFORNIA (Sept. 13) – Sophomore
Sarah Moehring (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) combined for 26 kills and 29 digs, as the California University of Pennsylvania volleyball team opened its home Vulcan Invitational with a pair of wins over Davis & Elkins and Daemen (N.Y.) on Friday in the Convocation Center.
With the victories, the Vulcans improve to 3-3 overall this season while already playing teams from five different conferences.
Against Davis & Elkins (1-3), Cal U featured two players with 20-plus digs in a 3-1 victory (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23). Moehring paced the team with 17 kills and added 18 digs to register her first kill/dig double-double of the season. Freshman
Kaylin Burkey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) also notched a kill/dig double-double, her team-leading third of the year, after recording 12 kills and 17 digs. Senior
Rachel Priore (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) and sophomore
Kiandria Cowart (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) each tallied seven kills against the Senators on the afternoon.

Sarah Benson (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) posted her fourth assist/dig double-double in the win, leading the team with 41 assists and 17 digs. Freshman
Kelly Lynch (Boardview Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) led the team with a season-high 25 digs and junior
Jensen Silbaugh (Warren, Ohio Lakeview) totaled 21 digs against D&E. Priore controlled the net with three blocks and Lynch recorded three service aces in the contest.
Against Daemen (2-3), Cal U secured a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-20, 25-16) after holding the opponent to a .077 hitting percentage and capitalizing on 21 attacking errors. Moehring once again led the team with nine kills and added two aces, while Burkey finished with eight kills versus the Wildcats. Benson guided the offense with 26 assists, 10 digs and three aces, her fifth-straight match with an assist/dig double-double.
Silbaugh directed the defense with 22 digs in the victory and Burkey reached double-digits with 12 digs. Moehring and Benson registered 11 and 10 digs, respectively, on Friday evening. The trio of Priore, Cowart and junior
Madison Kline (Hastings, Pa./Cambria Heights) each tallied three blocks at the net.
The Vulcans close play at their home invitational tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 14, with matches against West Liberty and Lake Erie (Ohio) in the Convocation Center, starting at 10 a.m.
