MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 30) – Playing its second dual match in as many days, the California University of Pennsylvania tennis program suffered a 7-0 loss at West Virginia on Saturday morning at the Summit Tennis Academy.
With the loss, the Vulcans fall to 4-5 this season after facing a pair of NCAA Division I opponents this weekend. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers, a Big-12 conference member, improve to 9-7 overall behind their third sweep of the year.
West Virginia secured the doubles points to begin the contest after claiming both completed matches. In the second position, junior
Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Square, Pa./Octorara) and senior
Elizabeth Wohar (California, Pa./California) fell by a 6-0 margin to Sofia Duran and Anastasia Bovolskaia. Freshmen
Julia McDaniel (South Park, Pa./South Park) and
Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) dropped a 6-0 contest at third doubles to Kirsten White and Abigail Rosiello.
The Mountaineers clinched the match victory by claiming all six singles matches in West Virginia. Freshman
Carolin Ganahl (Grafing, Germany/Gymnasium Grafing) battled in 6-3, 6-4 loss to Christina Jordan at the first position, while Gallagher fell by a 6-0, 6-1 margin at the second slot versus Anne-Sophie Courteau. At third singles, Wohar dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match to Nicole Roc and senior
Emily Suckling (Cheltenham, Australia/Mentone Girls' Secondary College) was dealt a 6-0, 6-0 loss by Giovanna Caputo atbthe fourth position. McDaniel suffered a defeat by a 6-0, 6-0 margin to Rosiello in the fifth slot, while Camargo dropped a 6-0, 6-0 contest to White.
