Vulcans record shutout at Seton Hill, 2-0

Austin scores twice in the second half; McGlumphy records first career shutout

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Nov. 6) – Junior Kiley Austin (Orchard Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) delivered a pair of second-half goals on Wednesday afternoon, as the Vulcans claimed a 2-0 shutout victory at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West action.

With the win, the California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team improves to 4-11-1 this season with a 3-11-1 mark in conference play. The Vulcans swept the season series against the Griffins after previously losing the last two meetings between the programs. Meanwhile, Seton Hill drops to 6-11 overall behind a 6-9 mark in divisional action.

In the second half, freshman Lindsie Galbreath (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) registered a shot at the 46:50-mark that was collected by the Griffin goalkeeper before junior Kellie Lynch (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) fired a header on goal nearly two minutes later. Cal U continued to pressure the net before a cross from Galbreath was put into the bottom left-corner of the net by Austin in the 50th minute, 1-0. Seton Hill looked to respond minutes later, but senior goalkeeper Reilly McGlumphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) grabbed two saves to maintain the lead. The Vulcans would eventually add to the lead at the 77:29-mark on a goal from Austin, her second of the game and third of the year, after Seton Hill lost the ball in front of its own net. Austin became the second player this season to score twice in a game after the feat was last accomplished in 2015. Cal U went on to tally three more shots and two corner kicks over the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-0 win.

Seton Hill attacked the net in the opening eight-plus minutes of the first half with a pair of shots that missed the net. The Vulcans countered with a shot on goal from junior Sarah Refosco (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) that was saved by the Griffin goalie. Cal U would control possession the remainder of the half and totaled four shots in nearly a four-minute span. The Vulcans then peppered four more shots, including one on goal, and a corner kick to head into the break scoreless.

McGlumphy tallied three saves on seven shots faced in 90 minutes of play to record her first career shutout while making a second-straight start.

Cal U held a staggering 21-7 shot advantage, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal, while also holding a 5-2 lead in corner kicks. It marked the most shots in the game by the Vulcans since the 2017 campaign when they totaled 28 attempts at Mansfield.

Cal U closes out the season on Saturday, Nov. 9, when it hosts Mercyhurst for Senior Day at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility, starting at 1 p.m.
