CALIFORNIA (Nov. 9) – The California University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team closed the season on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 loss to Mercyhurst on Senior Day at Phillipsburg Soccer Facility in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play.
With the loss, the Vulcans finish the year with a 4-12-1 overall record and a 3-12-1 mark in divisional action. Cal U posted a three-win improvement under head coach
Pete Curtis while also totaling its most goals since the 2015 campaign. Meanwhile, the Lakers close the regular season with an 11-5-2 record and finish third in the PSAC West standings with 31 points behind a 10-5-1 mark in league play.

Juliana Cruz (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) scored her fifth goal of the season off a pass from sophomore
Rebecca Lyxell (Stockholm, Sweden/Norra Real) just 41 seconds into the contest. The Lakers countered with three shots in just under eight minutes before tying score at the 26:50-mark when Alyssa Otto placed a shot into the top of the net following a feed from Amber Thomas. Mercyhurst claimed a 2-1 lead in the 38th minute when Thomas scored an unassisted goal from 20 yards out. The Lakers continued the offensive pressure with three shot attempts in just over three minutes before taking a 2-1 lead into the break.
Early in the second half, Mercyhurst added to the lead in the 48th minute when Cristy Senskey placed a shot into the top of the net with an assist from Emile Bock. The Lakers stretched the lead to 4-1 just under seven minutes later when Thomas connected for her second goal of the game following a feed from Otto at the 54:10-mark. Mercyhurst continued to pepper the net by tallying 14 shots in the second half with 10 attempts placed on net.

Reilly McGlumphy (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) tallied one save in the first half while making her third consecutive start. Fellow senior
Kayla Morran (Danville, Pa./Danville) played the second half on Saturday and registered eight saves in her season debut.
The Lakers out-shot the Vulcans by a 22-7 margin with 13 shots placed on target. Mercyhurst also posted a 3-0 edge in corner kicks in the contest.
