Tennis falls at West Chester, 7-0

Cal U plays first of two fall matches against PSAC East opponents

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 11) – The California University of Pennsylvania tennis team dropped a 7-0 contest at West Chester in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover play on Friday afternoon.

With the loss, the Vulcans move 0-3 this fall in dual matches. Meanwhile, the Golden Rams improve to 2-0 this season after qualifying for the NCAA Tournament last spring.

West Chester secured the doubles point on Friday after winning all three doubles matches. At the first slot, senior Charlie Gallagher (Kennett Squre, Pa./Octorara) and sophomore Fallon Winseck (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) suffered a 6-4 loss to Davica Massaro and Leandra Roelker. Sophomores Fulvia Camargo (South Park, Pa./South Park) and Julia McDaniel (South Park, Pa./South Park) fell by a 6-0 margin at the second position against Shannon Nixon and Julia Mowrey. Junior Alexa Uhlyar (Finleyville, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and freshman Annie Miller (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) also were downed by a 6-0 count by Elaina Lee and Elaina Rochford at third doubles.

The Golden Rams sealed the match victory on Friday after winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Winseck dropped a 6-1, 6-2 contest to Massaro at the first position and Gallagher fell by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at the second slot to Roelker. McDaniel suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Rochford at third singles, while Camargo was dealt a 6-0, 6-1 loss by Lee at the fourth position. Uhlyar fell by a 6-0, 6-0 count at the fifth slot against Nixon and Miller also dropped a 6-0, 6-0 match versus Mowrey at sixth singles.

Cal U closes out the fall season tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 12, with a dual match at league-newcomer Shepherd with play starting at 12 p.m.
